My Journey to Becoming a Flight Nurse
Let's be real, you don’t get into nursing for a quiet life. I’ve been in this game for over a decade now, starting out in the trenches of a med-surg floor as an LPN. From there, it was a constant, deliberate climb—a journey fueled by caffeine, chaos, and enough ambition to get me to the CVICU, and ultimately, to the sky.
I’ll never forget my first exposure to flight nursing. We had a patient who needed a higher level of care, and before I knew it, the flight crew rolled in. I watched them work—a blur of controlled chaos and calm confidence. And you know that feeling, when you see something and just think, "Oh yeah, that's my kind of crazy"? That was it for me. From that moment, my goal was clear: I wanted to be a flight nurse.
The Pride of the Right Seat
The journey from there was no joke. It was fueled by countless hours of studying, a mountain of certifications, and enough energy drinks to float a boat. But now, sitting in the right seat, I can honestly say it was all well worth it. This is more than a job; it’s a super bad ass position that I get to learn and grow in every single day. The gear we wear is a badge of honor for the lives we fly for, and I am so proud to be a part of a community that truly thrives on chaos.
Finding Authentic Flight Nurse Apparel
The only thing I couldn’t find on this journey was the right gear. I was tired of searching for flight nurse apparel that truly got the job—the long nights, the close calls, and the kind of dark humor you can only earn in the back of a medevac. So, since I couldn’t find it, I decided to design it myself. Rotor Wash & Wear was born from that need for a badge of honor that felt as authentic as the job itself.
